Predicting and mapping the future demand for irrigation water in England and Wales
نویسندگان
چکیده
A methodology has been developed for predicting the future growth in demand for irrigation in countries with supplemental irrigation such as England and Wales. This takes into account expected changes in agricultural policy, technical, market and other factors. The methodology has also been applied within a geographical information system (GIS) to map the growth. The GIS approach represents an extension of a procedure developed by Knox et al. (1997) (Knox, J.W., Weatherhead, E.K., Bradley, R.I., 1997. Agricultural Water Management 33, 1±18). The total net volumetric actual irrigation water requirements for a `design' dry year (20% exceedance), are predicted to rise from 168 10 m in 1996 to 244 10 m in 2021. Meanwhile, the total net volumetric theoretical irrigation water requirements for a `design' dry year, are predicted to rise from 204 10 m in 1996 to 247 10 m in 2021. Maps are presented showing the predicted change in the spatial distribution of irrigation demand between 1996 and 2021, and the theoretical dry year irrigation demand for all irrigated crops in 2021. The application and limitations of the methodology are discussed. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Investigating the accuracy of multivariate regression and ARIMA models in predicting water demand (Case Study: Mashhad city)
Awareness of water demand is of particular importance for its policy in urban management. Predicting water demand in the future will allow managers to take the necessary measures regarding sustainable water supply, given the constraints and crises ahead. The purpose of this study is to compare multivariate regression and ARIMA models to predict water demand in Mashhad. In this study, first, the...

X-ray photoelectron and electron energy loss spectroscopic (XPS-EELS) studies reveal that the following species are present when a mixture of CO2 and water vapour is exposed to the clean Mg(100) surface at 110K: CO3(a), C(a) CH(a), OH(a). The reactive chemisorptions of CO2 and H2O vapour coadsorbed on a Mg surface ...
متن کاملIrrigation Water Pricing in Iran: The Gap between Theory and Practice
Pricing policies play an important role in water demand management and its optimal allocation. Determining proper water price leads to optimal allocation of water especially in agricultural consumptions. Applying new subsidy targeting law in Iran which insists on pricing water based on its supply cost, will effects considerably on water resource management in agriculture sector. So, in this stu...

Preservation of water quality, particularly in areas with inadequate water resources is considered as one of the principles of planning in integrated water management. In Kuhdasht, a region at the west of Iran, groundwater and spring water resources are the major contributors of drinking and irrigation water supply. The aim of this study was to determine the suitability and mapping of springs a...

This experiment was done to investigate microbial contamination and in situ disappearance rates of dry matter (DM), N and 15N of fresh labeled ryegrass. Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) were labeled with 15N during growth in a glasshouse, harvested at 4th leaves stage and were incubated up to 34 h in situ in the rumen of 3 individually housed sheep. The animals were fed 800 g/d chopped alfal...
